NHL 13 Cover Vote

Maybe you saw the covers that I made for NHL 12 a few posts ago of Landeskog and Kesler.  If you did, EA Sports is letting fans vote for who will be on the cover for NHL 13.  You can vote for one person on each team, and it ends April 11th.  I think it's a pretty cool idea.  If EA wanted to take it a step further, they could let their fans even design the cover and enter into a competition.  Here is the link for the voting.

Today, I have 2 weird concepts.  The first one is for Jokerit of SM Liiga.  The shoulder yoke is based on the things jokers wear on their shoulders.  It's a pretty bright jersey.

This post I am also gonna show you all my Jets concepts that I have made.
First we have just a downright weird Jets concept.  It looks lopsided and its just..  I don't know...

Next is a Jets Coyotes Winter Classic.

That Jets jersey for the WC was based on one of my previous concepts.  The only difference is the logo and template.

And last is my first Jets jersey.  I don't really like it that much.

Bruins, Seattle, and Senators

To start off I made a concept for a hypothetical team called the Seattle Stars.  I moved the Dallas Stars to Seattle and kept the name.  Thomas mentioned to me that there might be a bit too much green.  What colors would you use for a Seattle team?  Seattle is called Emerald City.  You can give your opinion in the comments section.

I received a Bruins concept from Thomas himself.  He added two stripes and took away the shoulder yoke design.  I think it's a unique idea, but I don't think it would ever happen.

And the last concept today is a Sens home and away set by me.  I took they're alternate jersey, got rid of the chest stripes and used they're alternate logo.  I think this would make a good way for the Sens to get away from the Reebok cookie cutter jersey, seeing as a lot of teams are going retro.  Also for the home jersey I have used the french logo, and for the away jersey I used the english logo.

Tommorow I will be at the Brandon Wheat Kings vs. Calgary Hitmen game at the MTS centre, for game 5.  The Wheat Kings are up 3-1 in the series, so I'm pretty excited to see Mark Stone and other NHL prospects.

Quebec City New Arena

Quebec is getting a new arena, which means we're one step closer to getting another Canadian team.  I wonder if there's going to be another relocation for next season.

Rylen, who is new to making jersey concepts sent in a pretty nice blues fauxback.  My only concern is that I think there might be a bit too much striping.  It could be cool for a winter classic or an alternate though.

Thomas made his first concept on the new template and sent it into me.  It is based on their alternate.  He changed the white stripes to vintage white, and took away the silver outline.  He also changed the shoulder yoke from white to light blue.

The Saint John Seadogs of the QMJHL are basically wearing the Buffalo Sabres old Buffaslug jersey.  They are the Memorial Cup Champions and I think they need their own look.  Something that is simpler.  If you haven't noticed, I hate it when minor league teams copy NHL teams jerseys, unless they are the farm team.  So I made this...

Playoffs Nearing

6 more games until the first team finishes all they're games.  Once that happens, the playoffs start.  A few things I love about the playoffs is the rivalries, the fast paced games, and just the pure excitement.

To start off, I have an Islanders concept.  I'm starting to like it less and less every time I look at it.

The logo is an outline of Long Island with NY on it.  The jersey is just what they are wearing now with darker colors.

Secondly, I modified the Wings logo to make just a wheel.  I think it would make a pretty good shoulder patch.

And last but not least, here is a concept for the Chicago Express of the ECHL.  There wasn't really any inspiration, I just was playing around with a new template I found at HJC.

Sarnia Sting, and Fighting Sioux

Here is my entry, that is based on the old Thrashers away jersey.

The first concept was sent in to me on sunday.  This is Thomas's entry to the contest.

Not much to say about it, but I like it.  I like the classic striping and the good execution.  Also I like that he put the shoulder patch on only one arm.


The fighting Sioux are a University team in North Dakota.  I really think that the colors in their logo, should also be on the jersey.  So I made this.

Seattle New Team?

There's a lot of talk about phoenix moving their team to either Quebec or Seattle.  I don't think it will happen by this season, but potentially the next.  I think the team should go to Seattle.  Canada just got a team, why don't we see how that goes and Quebec could maybe get Dallas the next year or something.  They do call it Emerald city so here is a concept for the "Seattle Emerelds"

I think the OHL Rangers need their own look.  Their logo is basically the same as New York's.  So I minor-leagified they're logo and jerseys to go along.

Winnipeg Wheat Kings and NHL 12 Covers

With Winnipeg getting rid of their AHL team for an NHL team, not many people are able to get their hands on Jets tickets.  I think a CHL team would do really well in Winnipeg.  I would definitely buy season tickets.  The Brandon Wheat Kings have the lowest average attendance in the WHL right now, and it wouldn't be a long move if they were to relocate to Winnipeg.  The Wheat Kings could share the MTS Centre with the Jets.  Other WHL teams are known to do this such as the Calgary Hitmen and the Edmonton Oil Kings.  Here are some concepts that I made for the "Winnipeg Wheat Kings".

I was looking around in google images for random hockey related things.  I came across some fan made NHL 12 covers that looked pretty cool.  I decided to take a stab at it.  I made one for Ryan Kesler and Gabriel Landeskog.  They aren't very well made but they were fun to play around with.  Here they are.

It's Friday, Friday, Gotta Get Down on Friday

Sorry for the irresistible tittle, but here is a coyotes logo that I made.  It is a moon with rays shining out of it and a coyote slapped on.

It is based on their 1997 alternate logo:

Crosby Returning Tonight

It's an exciting night for the NHL.  Sidney Crosby is making his long awaited return (again).  He is, I think the best player in the league, and it's gonna be exciting to see him play again.  Plus NHL.com will stop writing about what he has for breakfast.  On tuesday, Stamkos hit the 50 goal mark with quite a few games left.  Thats insane!!  What if he gets 60 goals for the first time since ovechkin in 2008?
Today I bring you what I think the Vancouver Millionaires would look like if they were still around.  Could work as a Canucks alternate too.  It's based off the 03/04 Penguins away jersey.  The triangles on the side panels make for sort of a V effect.

And 2 hours away from my hometown Winnipeg,  here is a Brandon Wheat Kings Concept.  This was one of my first jersey concepts.  It was for a CHL redesign contest at HJC but as you can imagine, it wasn't done very well.  I have taken the time to redo it, with what I have learned.

Hybrid Icing

The annual GM meeting was a few days ago.  One of the main things they talked about was the "Hybrid Icing".  It sounds like an interesting idea.  If it would prevent injuries, I'd be all for it.  I'm excited to see this rule put in place.  If you want to read more about it, here's an article on it: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=622058

Playoff Push and Spitfires Rebrand

This is one of the most exciting times of the year.  It's coming down to the last 10 games and my Jets need to win a lot of them.  Half of the teams in the league are scrambling for every win they can get.  What is your favourite team, and do you think they'll make the playoffs?  If I have any followers by now, you can answer in the comments section.

First Post

Hey, this is my first post.  This is a website where I will be making Logo and Jersey Concepts to share with you guys.  You will also be able to send your own concepts in at hljconcepts@gmail.com.
To start off, here is a Columbus 2013 All Star Game Logo.  This was my first logo that I had ever made.

I will try to update this blog once or twice a week.  In the future, if I start receiving concepts from you guys, I will be able to update it more often.
